August 2024 Meeting

Aug 27, 2024 6:30PM

Called to Order:  Meeting was called to order at 6:31pm by President Andrew Sharp.  Mr. Sharp introduced the PTO board members and discussed the format of the meetings, times, place and dates.

Guest Speaker:  Ms. Jennifer Smith, an urban arborist, talked about the upcoming Tree Planting Project.  The proposed map and planting schedule was discussed.  Principal Ms. Gonzales added the future plans for possibly adding a reading garden, outside classroom, leaving an open space area, running and walking track for educational purposes and to improve community enjoyment.  More info on tree planting available at RootNashville.org.

Treasurer Report:  Delivered by treasurer Amanda McKey. Itemized report made available to all and posted.  President Sharp discussed how we raise money and where the dollars are spent for the students, staff, and school needs. Enroll in shop to support at Kroger and Publix here.

New Business:  Proposed budget for 24-25 school year provided for review and will be voted on for approval at the next meeting (Slide 15).  Proposed updates to the PTO By-laws were presented and discussed and will be voted on for approval at the next meeting (Slide 16). Review our current bylaws here.

Upcoming: 

  • Nurse Wendy has a donation request for 40 small cosmetic bags for students. 
  • Art service project that will be displayed throughout the school was discussed, wish list and building date to follow. 
  • Career on Wheels will be held on the morning of Friday October 18th.  If anyone has any connections to anyone who has a mobile business please contact Ms. Ryan. 
  • A committee sign-up sheet was provided for the 3 major events for the rest of the school year.  Those are Fall Festival Nov. 1st, Glow Dance TBD, and Dia de los Ninos April 26th.  A desire to create a Staff Recognition and Birthday, and Teacher Appreciation Week committee was proposed. 
    Express interest in a committee via this form.
  • First Spirit Day will be held at Hermitage Chick-Fil-A app orders only on Sept. 10th.

Principals Report:  Ms. Gonzalez discussed the topics from the previous and upcoming “Coffee with the Principal”.  She also discussed the implementation of the Pennington Panther Way code of etiquette.  Ms. Gonzales also explained the new positive behavior incentive program and showed a video.  She explained the house system and spoke about the Paw Pride assembly and roll out to the students.  The Principal also discussed her visions and the need for parental and community support to accomplish the goals.
