PTO Meeting Minutes Jan 21, 2025

Call To Order:  Meeting called to order by President Andrew Sharp at 6:38 P.M.

Guest Speaker:  We were joined by Officer Snowden about a possible book vending machine to use as incentives and to foster excitement and a love for books.  The cost for the proposed machine and books would be around $6000.  Officer Snowden pledged the first one thousand and is working to obtain additional donations.  Also he provided ideas for additional fundraising.  

Old Business:  Kroger enrollment rose by 17 this past period!  The extra enrollments increased the check to the PTO from Krogers by $81.  

Treasurer Report:  Given by Treasurer Amanda McKey.  Full report is posted on the PTO website.

New Business:  The Winter Dance has been moved to be held on  Friday February 28th from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the gym.  President Sharp discussed the process to get fundraisers approved through MNPS.  The dance will follow the same structure as last year with tickets on presale for $5 per family on 2/20-2/25.  $10 per family from 2/26 up to and at the door.  A limited number of premium drop off tickets will be sold for $25.  Kirstin Sharp found a fee free and easier to navigate site for people to pay and sign up as well as ease the entry at the door.

The Bruin Basketball fundraiser tickets are on sale now and the link can be found at PenningtonPTO.org.  The event is on Sunday February 2nd at 2 pm.  Tickets cost a total of $12.97 with $5 coming back to the PTO.  

Recap:  We are constantly updating the Staff Favorites list.  Thank you everyone for the participation in the Book Fair. We had $4900 in sales.  We had a Staff Holiday luncheon provided by the PTO with help from Chick-Fil-A.  

Principals Report:  Given by Ms. Gonzalez.  The arboretum group will begin planting trees in the next couple of weeks, large equipment will be on site.  A grant has been submitted in hopes of getting a school garden funded for the students to cultivate.  Through Mr. Farmer Nashville Helps/ United Way visited the school today to discuss the possibility of funding an outdoor classroom at Pennington. The 5th grade field trip is still in the planning stages as the school has reached out to parents for interest and to get a final number of those who would like to go to the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama. 

Staff Report:  Given by Ms. Hardin.  Next week will be Kindness Week with spirit days. Pennington 3rd-5th grades have been chosen for the TCAP field test that will be given starting Feb 18th.  The actual TCAPS will still be given the last 2 weeks of April.  The EL (English Learner) students will have their yearly test soon.
