PTO Meeting Minutes November 19th, 2024

Called To Order: Meeting was called to order by President Andrew Sharp at 6:31pm.

Treasurer Report: Giving by President Andrew Sharp Balance as of today is $4,677.06.

Upcoming Events: Winter Dance will be held on Friday February 21st, 2025 with a snow date of 2/28/2025. Date was determined by a survey sent out to the Staff. An upcoming Fundraiser with Belmont Bruins Basketball will be on Saturday Feb. 2nd, 2025. Tickets will go on sale starting December 14th, 2024. Tickets are $12.97 that price includes all fees and Pennington will receive $5 dollars back for every ticket sold. 5th grade shirts were designed by submissions from the 5th grade students. Kai Cervantes is the student with the winning design. The shirts will be given to the 5th graders and will also be available on the Zazzle spirit wear site for anyone else who wishes to purchase them. The PTO is in the process of updating the Teacher and Staff Favorites lists and they will be made available for anyone who wishes to treat the teachers and staff. PTO is in contact with Chick-fil-A about providing a teacher and staff appreciation breakfast at some point in the year. Fall Festival went very well and THANK YOU to all who donated, volunteered, and attended to make this event successful.

Principal’s Report: Given by Assistant Principal Dr. Mallory. There will be one fifth grade student to be chosen as “Principal for a Day”. The student will be chosen by a vote of their peers. An interest survey for an end of year 5th grade field trip to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. A parent informational meeting will be held on Thursday December 5th, 2024. Celebration of Schools occurred this past Saturday at Nissan Stadium. Pennington was represented very well by administration, teachers, staff, student ambassadors, and parents. Benchmark testing will be Dec. 9th-20th. Middle School options night for 5th grade families will be held on this Thursday conducted by Ms. Ryan. If you see Turkey Feathers throughout the school they are being used to display appreciation for everything that individuals or organizations that facilitate success at Pennington.

Staff Report: Delivered by Ms. Hardin. There is a new En Español Section in the library and also in Ms. Smith and Ms. Gascho’s classrooms. Please donate any bilingual imagination library books that are no longer being used. The Book Fair will begin on Thursday Dec 12th. The Winter Program will also be held on this day at 6:30 to 7:30pm. Kindergarten will be having a special performance as well as songs from the chorus. If you are interested in helping in anyway please email Ms.Amy Tripp. The book fair will be open before and after the program for families to shop. Further information will be sent home after the Thanksgiving break. The ICE reading program is having a great response so far.
