October 2024 Meeting

Call to Order:  Meeting called to order at 6:34pm by President Andrew Sharp

Upcoming Notes:  Wear pink on Thursday, Fall Festival November 1st, Next PTO Meeting Nov 19th.

Treasurer Report:  As of today available balance is $3,973.82 with 2 outstanding deposits from Chick-fil-A Spirit night and Kroger Rewards.

New Business:  Proposed 5th grade shirt designs are due Friday. (Now extended to Nov 4) Fall Festival needs more Parent Volunteers, a call out and message will be sent out with the  sign up link.  The Fall Festival  pumpkin contest will start next week with drop offs in the morning.  Related Arts teachers will judge and prizes will be awarded the night of Fall Fest.  Possible opportunity with Belmont University Basketball was discussed. 

Accomplishments: News Channel 5 meteorologists came to the school and in conjunction with the upcoming ICE and Opryland hotel conducted a hands on project participation.  The Passafume family generously donated soap for each student to carve just like the artists do to make the ice sculptures.  A segment will air on the news and should be on their website. 

Principals Report:  Presented by Ms. Gonzalez.  Coffee with the Principal was held on Monday Oct 21st.  The talk was focused on helping parents support students at home with math fluency.  Several at home math fluency games at home with a simple deck of cards.  Folders were provided with take home materials.  On Thursday Oct 31st the students will conduct a Halloween Costume Parade at 8:30am in the back of the school and parents may view the parade WEATHER PERMITTING.  If weather does not allow for the outdoor event the parade will be held inside and parents will not be able to attend.  Ms. Gonzalez spoke about the desire to create a Zen space for the teachers to be able to take a moment when needed to recharge.  If anyone has any ideas or wishes to donate any furniture, lamps, or anything for a cozy, peaceful area please let the office know.  Ms. Gonzalez then discussed the desire to begin an annual end of year field trip for the 5th grade to the Space and Rocket center in Huntsville, AL.  More information as well as a survey will be sent to the parents of 5th graders will details of costs, desire, and information.  A possible fundraiser may occur to help offset costs for the event and charter buses.  She then spoke about her visit to a STEAM school in Hendersonville.  Looking to integrate STEAM into Pennington and initial steps in planning are beginning.

Staff Report:  Presented by Ms. Hardin.  Report cards went home today.  There will be a Winter Musical program in December with a tentative date of December 12th to coincide with the Annual Book Fair.  The school renewed the media license to be able to show movies for another year.  

Open Floor Discussion: The following were discussed by attendees:  Fall fest volunteers needed, teachers will send links out to their classes.  Hay bales were donated by the Co-Op.  Pumpkins are still needed.  In future requests for volunteers to sign up, links will be in English and Spanish.  Daffodils will be available to plant on the school grounds on a workshop day for families to plant.  Areas will be flagged off showing where to plant.
