Meeting Minutes 
August 22, 2023 6:30PM

Called to Order:  Meeting called to order at 6:34 PM by President Andrew Sharp.

Old Business:  Treasurer's report read, discussed, moved, 2nd, voted and approved.  Current balance at the time of the meeting is $614.58.

New Business:  Open officer’s positions discussed.  Treasurer, Event Coordinator, and any other committee chairs or volunteer interest discussed.  Also, Ms. Hardin will be our new Faculty Liaison.  Thanks to Ms. Smith for all of the help over the past years.

Spirit Wear was discussed and the designs and prices shown.  Spirit Wear that was voted and approved last year will be used this year, as PTO was unable to do the fundraiser last year. 

Spirit Nights:  Upcoming Spirit Night at Hermitage Chick-Fil-A discussed, the event will be on September 28, 2023.  Details to follow closer to the event.  Other possible spirit nights were discussed and Nectar was suggested as a possible partner.  Motion was presented, moved , 2nd, and approved to set up another spirit night possibly at Nectar date to be determined.

Meet and Greet/Playdate: Meet and Greet/ Playdate date was discussed and changed from 9/9 to 9/16 on the back playground at Pennington as not to conflict with MNPS Schools Parade that will be held on 9/9 from 4-7 PM at Nissan Stadium.  It was moved,2nd, and approved.
MNPS School Parade:  The Parade was discussed and volunteers were needed to represent Pennington in the parade.  Any family was encouraged to join the PTO by walking in the Parade and contact the PTO for interest and details.

PTO Sponsored School Wide Dance:    After the success of the dance last year the PTO will be having another dance on Friday  11/17/23.  It was discussed that there was no charge to attend the dance because it was the first schoolwide function since COVID restrictions.  A charge of $5 per family, with an increased charge of $20 or $25 dollars for drop offs, and prior drop off registration to allow for safety and care of the students without guardians in the building.  The motion was made, 2nd, voted and approved.

Ongoing Fundraisers:  Ongoing passive fundraisers such as Kroger, Publix and Givebacks were discussed and encouraged to support for all member families and friends of Pennington.

Report From Ms. Hardin:  Ms. Hardin introduced herself and discussed her role as Faculty Liaison.  She also encouraged families to volunteer to help teachers in any way they can such as, making copies, sorting items, shelving books, etc.

Floor Opened:  The floor was opened for questions, comments, or any concerns.   It was asked about eating lunch with their child at school.  The only barrier is since the 5th grade was added last year that there are not any open tables or spaces to allow at this time.  It was discussed that the Faculty and Administration are very much open to parents or guardians  eating with their children.  The PTO has been in ongoing discussions with the leadership at the school to come up with an area outside with tables and maybe a covering to have for this need.  Members were encouraged to come up with solutions.

Membership: 6 Families joined the PTO at this meeting.
